“I can’t decide whether Michael Schatte (pronounced Shaw-tee) is a killer guitarist with an excellent voice who writes great songs or a poet who also happens to be a great singer and guitarist. Either way it works! Born in Chatham Ontario but now living in Toronto Michael started his career at age 10. By the time he reached High School he already knew he wanted to be a full time musician for the rest of his life. He developed his skill on the guitar by listening to artists like Peter Green, Danny Gatton, Albert Lee, Mark Knopfler and Richard Thompson working on mastering their finger-picking style. He then decided he needed to learn the business side of the music business and enrolled in a 4 year Business Program at McMaster University where he learned the skills of networking, marketing, brand building and proper financial practises. It’s worked. Michael released his first album in 1999. He followed that with 3 more plus an EP. His most recent CD – “Turn Back The Vikings” – has acheived much critical acclaim and airplay. It helped win him the Toronto Blues Society Talent Search in 2015 and a trip to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis last year where he and his band made the finals. He’s returning to the IBC’s again this year in the Solo category. Michael’s music is unique, rich and eclectic with Rock, Folk, Reggae, Rockabilly, Bluegrass and Celtic influences over strong a Blues Roots base. Watch for big things from this young man.”
