Ontario’s Michael Schatte’s sound falls superbly somewhere between the folk rock musings of Richard Thompson and the Canuck blues edge of Colin James and, though long at 15 tracks, it’s a solid, eclectic listen top to bottom. As a bonus, the artist also displays something of a literate edge to his lyrics that definitely sets him more than a few rungs above the moon/June competition. His playing throughout is at times awe-inspiring without being studied, and his production skills make the sound of the album bright and crystal clear. Absolutely worth a listen.
